Glasgow City Council is preparing to award a £2.4 million contract to support families affected by alcohol and drug use

Council bosses are preparing to award a £2.4 million contract to support families impacted by those who have alcohol and drug use problems.
Glasgow City Council is proposing to hand the deal to Family Addiction Support Service Joint with Geeza Break if approved next week.
A previous search for a supplier was unsuccessful so the council had to try again to find an organisation to carry out the service.
The organisation would provide community alcohol and drug recovery services which aim to “deliver recovery oriented, trauma informed and person led community based commissioned services” according to a council report.
The Community Alcohol and Drug Recover Services Lot 3 contract is due to begin on or after September 23 and run for four years.
The council said there has been “significant consultation” to shape the design of the service with events attended by people who have experienced alcohol or drug use problems as well as staff from the Alcohol and Drug Partnership and third sector groups.
The feedback collected was used to draft the contract tender strategy and documents ensuring lived experience was taken into account in the bid to find a supplier.
Commenting on how the service would support equality, a council report said: “Overall, it is expected that the services will actively address equalities issues and have an ethos that shows understanding of the circumstances and experiences of individuals affected by drug and alcohol use and to those families, children and young people affected by others drug and alcohol use.
“The contract includes a requirement that the Provider’s staff training reflects an understanding of and a commitment to the above.”
The contract was re-tendered after the original attempt to appoint a supplier fell through.
The contract proposal will be presented to the council’s contracts and property committee next week and councillors will decide whether to approve it.
A number of other community alcohol and drug recovery services contracts lots have recently been approved – with a total of about £25 million.
