Almost 60 new homes for social rent are planned on an empty site in Glasgow’s east end.
AS Homes Scotland wants to build on land in Haghill which was previously occupied by tenements but has been vacant for “several decades”.
Glasgow City Council has received an application to create 47 two-storey semi-detached and terraced houses and 12 cottage flats — six of which will be wheelchair accessible.
Plans state the “introduction of much required affordable housing at this location will help to regenerate the surrounding area, transforming a currently underused and derelict space into a vibrant housing development”.
The application adds historical mapping from the 1970s show the site, between Todd Street and Appin Road, was “formerly occupied by traditional tenement housing”.
The “prolonged vacancy has resulted in an underutilised parcel of land”, it states, and “redevelopment would represent a logical continuation of the historic land use and would not result in the loss of greenfield land”.
There would be a range of housing types available, including a “three-bedroom, five-person end-terrace dwelling and a two-bedroom, four-person mid-terrace dwelling”.
“These homes exemplify the provision of modern, high-quality, and sustainable family accommodation within a Glasgow urban neighbourhood,” the plans continue.
“The proposed dwellings are designed to meet current housing standards and incorporate energy-efficient construction, high levels of thermal performance, and adaptable layouts to support long-term living.
“The inclusion of accessible and adaptable homes will support a diverse range of household needs, including families, older people, and residents with mobility requirements.”
A total of 76 car parking spaces are planned, including 11 visitor spaces.
