Ted Hill Teaches You Science, Most of Which is True

Britain’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer winner, Ted Hill, has returned to this year’s Fringe with two shows; a comedy hour and a children’s science hour.
Transferring his comedy skills over to silly science lessons, the professional science presenter is hosting an hour of crazy science for kids, conducting unique experiments that will leave children and adults both amazed.
‘Ted Hill Teaches You Science, Most of Which is True’ is a fun and educational show that also reflects Ted Hill’s strong comedy skills. Consisting of primarily explosion and fire based experiments that make you wonder if the venue signed off on them, Ted Hill’s 11:10am performance Downstairs at Assembly Roxy had families laughing and in awe, creatively using crowd participation to keep the audience engaged throughout the whole performance.
Described as ‘high-energy mischief’, Ted perfectly ties in his stand-up comedy with his children’s entertainment skills. His use of crowd work made the show, making everyone feel they are as much part of the experiments as he is by having conversations with audience members, cracking jokes at some and inviting children to be part of the show.
The London-based comedian and science host reached the final of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, earning Ant and Dec’s Golden Buzzer during his audition. Performing stand-up comedy similar to his other Fringe show, ‘Ted Hill: PowerPoindexter’, on BGT, the comedian used graphs, pie charts and slideshows to create stand-up presentations where he deep dived into certain topics, such as Simon Cowell’s preferences.
Opening his Fringe show with an experiment that created a large flame floating towards the venue ceiling, from the get go you could see the high-quality of the performance, both production wise and the talent of the performer.
The type of experiments to expect will leave you amazed, using different gasses and chemical solutions to create explosions, all ending in a big finale that leaves a bottle rocket hurling towards the crowd.
Having two shows at the festival, one tailored for children and one stand-up, shows the talent of Ted Hill and his ability to change his comedy to be most effective to different audiences.
Despite the high quality of performance and experiments, one negative is the amount of experiments with all of them being flame or explosion based, creating a gap for other simple experiments that would resonate with the kid audience.
Named ‘Ted Hill Teaches You Science, Most of Which is True’, the performer used his performance to not only entertain and create laughs but he explains the experiments and scientific processes to the audience, creating the perfect mix of learning and entertainment.
Ted Hill’s show is a 5/5 kids show at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe but one that won’t leave parents bored, one that will entertain the whole family.
