Buchanan Galleries is set to rally national pride ahead of the FIFA World Cup with a one-off live performance by Scottish rock band KELOWNA at its dedicated Busk Stop on Saturday 9 May.

Formed in early 2024, KELOWNA brings together five musicians – Glasgow’s Davy Wilson along with Paul Mooney, Ian Davy, Simon Amos and Rory McEwan – who bonded over a shared love of rock and roll. Since then, the band has released a series of anthemic singles including Raven Lady, Monster and Faith in the Gaffer, and has played live shows across Scotland.

KELOWNA will perform their latest single anthemic Celtic-folk song Faith in the Gaffer at Buchanan Galleries – a track written to celebrate the Scotland men’s national football team’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup and to support MND Scotland. Visitors can catch the band at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on 9 May at the centre’s Busk Stop, located in front of the iconic flower wall.

KELOWNA will donate all proceeds from the busking event at Buchanan Galleries to MND Scotland, the only charity in Scotland dedicated to directly supporting people with MND, their families and friends. Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase the single by download, of which the £1.67 purchase will go directly to the cause.

Since being founded 45 years ago, MND Scotland has provided practical, financial and emotional support to anyone affected by MND whilst also funding essential research into finding effective treatments and a cure. All proceeds from the track will go towards funding vital services and pioneering research.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, said, “Music has the unique ability to bring people together, which is why we’re excited to welcome KELOWNA to Buchanan Galleries for this special live performance. Their single, Faith in the Gaffer, is set to be a huge hit as excitement builds ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

“Their performance will bring a fantastic sense of energy and entertainment into the heart of the centre, giving visitors a memorable experience while they shop. It is also a great example of how our Busk Stop can be used to create meaningful moments for our guests and the wider community.”

Lynne Wiseman, Fundraising Lead at MND Scotland, said: “We could not directly support people in Scotland with MND or fund vital research without the support of our amazing fundraisers. We are so grateful to KELOWNA for choosing to support MND Scotland with their World Cup song. The money raised from the single and events like Buchanan Galleries’s Busk Stop will go a long way to helping make time count for people with MND.

Lead singer of KELOWNA, Davy Wilson, said, “As a rock band from Glasgow, playing at Buchanan Galleries with a song that celebrates the national team and supports MND Scotland means a lot to us.

“Football and music both have this incredible power to bring people together, and this performance is all about sharing that sense of pride, unity and belief ahead of the World Cup.”

Wilson is the voice and creative heart of the band. Born and raised in Glasgow, Davy first made his mark on the city’s cabaret scene, performing at the legendary Porters Bar. From there, his career took him across the UK and Ireland with respected tribute acts Motown Brothers and Videostar80s. Davy possesses an exceptional range and draws on a diverse musical landscape, helping to shape KELOWNA’s distinct, powerful yet melodic rock and roll sound.

Wilson added, “Faith in the Gaffer was written to capture that buzz every Scotland fan is feeling right now, so performing it live in the heart of Glasgow is going to be special. We can’t wait to get everyone singing, celebrating and showing a bit of Scottish pride at Buchanan Galleries.”

KELOWNA will perform the single for guests at Buchanan Galleries on Saturday 9 May at 11am, 1pm and 3pm at the centre’s Busk Stop, located outside John Lewis & Partners. Following the performance at Buchanan Galleries, the band will be taking part in a walking tour across city.
