Youngsters are being encouraged to pick up a book and take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Inverclyde libraries are once again taking part in the challenge, which is being run in partnership with the Reading Agency.
Aimed at four to 11 year olds, this summer’s theme is Read to the Beat with children challenged to read six books over the summer holidays, earning stickers as they go.
Children can drop in and sign up to the challenge all day in the Entertainment Tent at the Comet Festival in Coronation Park, Port Glasgow on Saturday 20 June. There will also be Sea Shanty workshops with Connor Bristow running between 3-4pm.
As well as reading six books, youngsters who attend library activities with a story theme will also count towards the challenge, meaning more ways to earn stickers.
When children have completed the challenge, they will receive a certificate and will also be in with a chance of winning an author visit to their school.
All children who complete the challenge will also be invited to Inverclyde libraries’ annual Summer Reading Challenge celebration event in Port Glasgow Town Hall in September, where they will receive their medals.
The challenge runs until Monday 31 August, and children can sign up at their local library any time throughout the summer.
A ‘mini challenge’ will run in conjunction with the Summer Reading Challenge for children aged under 4.
