Hampden Park

Further event day parking (EDP) restrictions are expected to be put in place ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games as the city counts down to the international event.
Glasgow City Council has been creating and managing EDP Zones around venues like Ibrox, Celtic Park and Hampden which restricts general parking to permit holders only.
The aim is to control parking chaos, reduce congestion, improve emergency access, and manage anti-social behaviour for local residents during match days and sporting events.
Residents and businesses within an EDP Zone can apply for a special permit to park during event days, as general street parking is restricted or prohibited for non-permit holders.
During the most recent operations and scrutiny committee questions were raised over how EDP would work during this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
Councillor Chris Cunningham said: “In terms of event day parking, can someone tell me, that EDP arrangements will apply during the Commonwealth Games for those events at the various stadia and venues where there are arrangements already in place.
“Presumably we are in a position where the EDP zones [for the Commonwealth Games] are not absolutely finalised and communities will not yet know the arrangements.”
A council officer confirmed that these future zones were yet to be confirmed.
They said: “It is my understanding that there will be traffic management and EDP restrictions in the places which are currently in operation.
“We are working with the Commonwealth Games provider on traffic and parking management in and around the zones.
“There are ongoing discussions with the Commonwealth Games transport partners who are working their way through that.
“The council’s event team is working in partnership with the roads department to look at all the options available so all that will be communicated in due course and well in advance of the games so we can all get comfortable with it.”
