Glasgow City Chambers

Council bosses are considering cancelling the need for short term let licences while the Commonwealth Games take place in Glasgow.
A public consultation is currently taking place on whether the council should allow a temporary exemption to the requirement for short term let licences for accommodation during the huge event.
The exemption period would run from July 22 to August 3 and help meet a major demand for rooms during the competition.
The temporary measures would apply to all short term let types including home sharing, home letting and secondary letting.
Councillors sitting on the city’s licensing and regulatory committee decided a public consultation should be held on an amended short term lets policy.
A council report to the committee said councillors are asked to consider the “possible impact that granting a temporary exemption would have on alleviating accommodation pressures the city might experience in terms of the city’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games next year where there will be a significant increase in demand for accommodation in the city in the period leading up to and during the event”.
About 3000 athletes are expected to arrive in Glasgow from 74 nations for the event with around 500,000 tickets available.
People who want a short term let exemption for the Commonwealth Games would need to apply to the Licensing authority and pay a fee.
The consultation on the proposal will run until February 2.
