283a and 283b North Woodside Road

A Glasgow City Council committee approved the disposal of buildings in Woodside and Springburn that will allow a housing association to take on two homes, and the beginning of negotiations on the creation of spaces for office, training and community use.
The council will dispose of two properties – at 283a and 283b North Woodside Road – to Key Housing Association. The properties are located in a sub-divided modern detached two-story villa, and Key Housing Association has been the care provider for the properties for the past 20 years.
The disposal of the two residences – for a total of £495,000 – will allow the housing association to continue to provide care at the residences and assume responsibility as landlord for both properties. This continuity is important as the properties are occupied by tenants who require care packages commissioned and funded by the council. These tenants require significant levels of care and support, and maintaining stability and continuity of accommodation and care provision remains a key consideration.
The committee also approved today (11 June) the beginning of negotiations for the sale of the B Listed Old Springburn Library (pictured above) at 179 Ayr Street to NG Homes. The former library building dates back to 1904 and was latterly used by Jobs and Business Glasgow but is now an empty property. The council is keen that a sustainable use for the building is found, and NG homes Ltd would like to acquire the property to deliver economic and social opportunities, including providing office space for a local social initiative, whilst reintroducing access for the public through innovative projects such as an events space.
If the sale is successful, NG Homes would use the services to be delivered at the former library would link with their homes existing employability and entrepreneurship programmes and support apprenticeships and programmes with local schools providing training and business support working with their partner organisations.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, City Convener for Housing and Development at Glasgow City Council, said:
“The disposal of the two properties on North Woodside Road will provide continuity of care for the tenants in the homes there, and generate a significant capital receipt for the council. The beginning of negotiations on the potential sale of the Old Springburn Library offers the chance for new and productive uses for the building, and a number of valuable new services available there for the local community.”
