A fresh bid to convert a former snooker club in Dennistoun into flats has been given the green light.
Glasgow City Council has approved plans from Sovereign Properties Stafford Ltd to demolish an extension and create eight flats on the Craigpark site.
Originally Dennistoun Public Baths, the building later became the Craigpark Masters snooker club, which has been closed since 2020.
The previous owner’s plans to provide 11 flats were approved in 2023 but that project did not proceed.
A statement submitted on behalf of the new owners adds: “Our client has since acquired the property and they wish to deliver an alternative development scheme.
“The most notable change is that our client does not propose the erection of a replacement extension. The result is the creation of a sizable rear curtilage which can be used to serve the proposed flats.”
Under the plan, the B-listed building will be converted into homes while the rear extension, which contained the snooker hall, will be knocked down. There was also a barbershop on the first floor of the property.
Ownership of the snooker club had changed hands several times, with the last owners ceasing trading in 2020.
The plans continue: “The proposal presents an opportunity to deliver a vibrant and viable alternative use for a landmark listed building with unique features.
“In doing so, the proposal would involve the more sustainable practice of converting and reusing an existing disused building and redeveloping an otherwise brownfield site.
“The alternative use would provide a number of new homes in a growing neighbourhood of Glasgow’s east end.”
Council planners have granted planning permission and listed building consent to the applicant.
