Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Catherine Hunter
Proposals to lease an East End recreational area to a local football academy for 25 years for £250 per annum are expected to be approved by the city council.
Members of the contracts and property committee are being asked to approve the lease to Finnart Football Academy, a registered charity, of the grounds at Amulree Street in Tollcross, this Thursday.
Finnart is an organisation from the Bridgeton area of Glasgow providing affordable football to over 500 people ranging from three years old to adults at Glasgow Green Football Centre.
They look to provide a fun and safe environment for people at all stages of their football journey and host its famous mini kickers program at Glasgow Green every Thursday from 6-7pm.
The area of land is made up of a recreational area and football pitches extending to 1.19 hectares (2.94 acres) and is located on the east side of Amulree Street.
Finnart has already been a tenant since May 2025 on an annual lease and if the extended contract is approved will use the space for training facilities as well as ancillary uses to the main playing fields including summer camps.
A document presented to the city council reads: “Finnart Football Academy has recently agreed a 25 year lease over the playing field with CPGI (City Property Glasgow Investments) and wish to bring their interest in both areas into alignment.
“The charity have been a tenant since May 2025 on an annual lease and now wish to extend to a 25 year lease.
“The tenant to be responsible for maintaining and repairing the subjects at their own cost and associated installations or equipment such as fencing, seating and floodlighting.”
