Mosesfield Houses, Springburn Park
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Sarah Hilley
Springburn has the highest numbers of listed buildings at risk in Glasgow as efforts are underway to stop a Gothic Mansion falling down in the area.
The B-listed Mosesfield House is among buildings causing concerns along with the long-derelict Springburn Winter Gardens.
Glasgow City Council has been working with housing association NG Homes to help protect Mosesfield House, which received £400,000 Scottish Government cash from the Place Fund. It is understood the Springburn Park property, which has been hit by vandalism in the past, could eventually be redeveloped into a community facility.
A council official said the Place Fund was “to stop any collapse of the building – anything fundamental”.
He added: “The works are not to bring the building back into use but stopping the building form falling down while there is extra funding brought in for a more comprehensive programme.”
He was responding to a question from local councillor Graham Campbell who enquired about heritage buildings in his area benefiting from the Place Fund.
Speaking at a meeting last week, the official said there are legal complications regarding Mosesfield House and the council is – aiming to get funding committed to NG Homes by the end of year.
Describing the wider situation with buildings in the area, he said: “Springburn has one of the largest concentrations of listed buildings at risk within any neighbourhood in the centre.”
He told last week’s economy, housing, transport and regeneration city policy committee that it is hoped a bid to the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund for the Springburn Winter Gardens would be successful.
