Glasgow Green is in line for investment

Five Glasgow sports grounds reaching the end of their life are getting pitch upgrades worth more than £1.6 million.
Nethercraigs Sports Complex, the Palace of Art pitch at Bellahouston, Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow Green and Springburn Park are the locations in line for investments from developer contributions.
Grass at Nethercraigs will be swapped for a £315,820 new artificial 3G pitch while a synthetic pitch at Palace of Art will also be replaced at a cost of £258,000.
About £602,000 is to be spent on the upgrade and maintenance of changing rooms at Toryglen Regional Football Centre and Crownpoint Sports Complex.
Synthetic pitches and changing facilities will be upgraded at Glasgow Green Football Centre with just over £350,000 invested. A synthetic pitch is to be replaced and a pavilion upgraded at Springburn Park costing nearly £163,000.
Speaking at today’s city administration committee, development and housing convenor Ruairi Kelly, SNP, said the locations for investment were decided after Glasgow Life carried out surveys of conditions.
Councillor Rashid Hussain, Labour, asked about the process to determine the level of funding allocated to projects.
An official said: “The pitches presented today are coming to the end of their life.”
He said the investment enables facilities to be sustained “for the greater good of the clubs that train and play their matches at these facilities.”
Councillors sitting on the city administration committee approved the investments.
A council report said: “The City Development Plan and its predecessor City Plan 2 contain policies requiring developer contributions towards the provision of formal sport in circumstances where facilities are not provided on housing sites.”
