A former day care centre in Maryhill, which is in disrepair, to be demolished to make way for dementia friendly flats if proposals are approved.
Maryhill Housing Association has applied for planning permission to build the 16 one bedroom homes at Oran Gardens close to Maryhill Road.
A lift and level access are part of the plans as the development is to be suitable for people using wheelchairs and ambulant-disabled residents.
A design document submitted to the council says the plan aims to “deliver a well serviced, high quality residential development close to the city”.
It added: “Given the targeted end-user group, accessibility is key.”
The document continus: “The proposals have been carefully considered to fit in with the the context and compliment the surrounding area.”
The development is to be two and three storeys high and would have seven parking spaces and a mobility scooter store.
Describing the outside areas, the design statement said a central courtyard will be formed with “hardscaping to allow accessibility, but will be softened by areas of planting and seating throughout”.
The statement added: “Given the older or ambulant disabled user group, the proposed landscaping strategy maximises the external courtyard space, featuring growing spaces and seating for residents, as well as ample drying space.
“Quality outdoor spaces are very important when designing for certain conditions such as dementia.”
Glasgow City Council is considering the application.
