Concerns that work to prevent flood prevention across Glasgow could be delayed have been raised by a local councillor.

The local authority has been working to create a flood prevention scheme through Drumchapel’s SWMP (surface water management plan), which saw the drainage upgraded on Summerhill Road and completed in December last year.

During the most recent operations and scrutiny committee concerns were raised by councillor Imran Alam who highlighted that the drainage partnership with Wheatley Homes at Pitmilly Road still needed funding approval.

Councillor Imran Alam said: “I can see the drainage partnership is on hold from the papers I have received.

“What risk does this pose for flood prevention? I can also see there are some procurement delays with the city centre drainage strategy as well.

“Are there any alternative routes that are being considered and in a bit of a delay. Do we have a timeline for that please?”

During the meeting it was confirmed that the council has engaged with Scottish Water to develop a city centre surface water drainage system.

A council officer said: “In relation to the drainage partnership, there was a meeting scheduled for today [Wednesday] for Wheatley group to review the Red Road Master Plan which will hopefully confirm that the SUDS basin will remain in the proposed location.

“We are currently engaging with Scottish Water and reviewing the procurement options for the city centre and tenders have now been submitted for the new Scotland Excel framework.”
