The number of people looking for more information on becoming a foster carer with Inverclyde Council has more than doubled in just a few months.
A new publicity and marketing campaign began in April with a new website, branding, billboard advertising, digital advertising, online seminars and a refreshed recruitment pack.
Since then, there have been 30 enquiries to Inverclyde HSCP’s children and families service about becoming a foster carer. In 2025, there were just 12 enquiries over the whole year.
A report to Inverclyde’s Integration Joint Board (IJB) – the organisation which brings together Inverclyde Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to manage the HSCP – found that the first few months of the campaign has been a success.
Fees paid to foster carers with Inverclyde HSCP increased to £350 per week, per child from July 2025 to better reflect the complexity, skill and commitment involved in becoming a foster carer.
Inverclyde Council and HSCP has also begun exploring becoming a fostering friendly employer to increase fostering awareness and the number of employees signing up.
Councillor Francesca Brennan, vice-chair of Inverclyde IJB and convener of the Social Work and Social Care Scrutiny Panel, welcomed the report.
She said: “This report makes for great reading and I’m delighted the service is already seeing an impact. So much so that the figure in the report on the number of enquiries is already out of date with more coming in all the time.
“We know there are people in Inverclyde who are willing to open their hearts and their homes to young people going through a difficult time. Having more foster carers means that young people have a better chance of staying in Inverclyde, near their schools, nurseries and families and everything that’s familiar to them.
“This campaign isn’t just words, we’ve put money behind it by increasing the payments foster carers receive to clearly demonstrate how much we value the important job they do.
“I know this campaign is just a few months old but the early signs are really positive and I hope it continues.”
