Glasgow councillors have had 15 trips to conferences in recent months signed off- with travel costing nearly £6,000.
Trips approved by the council’s chief executive included Barcelona, France Norway and destinations closer to home including Edinburgh and London.
Approval was given for SNP council leader Susan Aitken and councillor Ruairi Kelly to attend the Palais des Festivals in Cannes in March at a cost of £500 each.
During the same month SNP councillor Angus Millar was down to attend the CDP Awards in Paris costing £401.
And Labour councillor Imran Alam got £826 travel signed off to head to Finland in February for the LUCI Cities and Lighting Summit.
Authorisation was also given for SNP Councillor Paul Leinster to attend the Smart City Expo in Barcelona in November costing £765 and for Bailie Annette Christie, SNP, to visit Oslo for the ExCom and Forum Chairs meeting in March for £760.
Details of the journeys were presented to yesterday’s operational performance and delivery scrutiny committee along with the level of CO2 emissions.
A council report said: “In terms of the scheme of delegated functions, the chief executive is authorised, in consultation with the council business manager, to authorise the attendance of elected members at conferences etc in the UK up to a maximum of £800 and to approve international travel up to a maximum cost of £1,000 per person.”
The total of the recent journeys approved added up to about £5,900.
