Shieldhall Household Waste Recycling Centre

A recycling depot in Glasgow’s southside has stopped accepting bulky waste as it is at “capacity,” it is understood.
Shieldhall Household Waste Recycling Centre is temporarily closed to “residents using vans” according to Glasgow City Council but is still open for people visiting with waste in cars.
Govanhill Housing Association said in a social media statement that the Renfrew Road centre “is at capacity” so contractors can’t collect bulk waste this week.
Southside councillor Soryia Siddique said: “Constituents have shared concerns with me regarding capacity issues at Shieldhall Waste Management Service. I have raised this with the Executive Director of Neighbourhood Regeneration and Sustainability Services.”
The Labour councillor added: “Govanhill is already a pressurised area known for experiencing environmental issues. It is paramount the bulk waste management capacity issue is addressed as a matter of priority. I will continue to raise Govanhill community concerns with Glasgow City Council.”
A council statement on its website said: “Shieldhall is temporarily closed to householders using vans. Residents with vans should use Dawsholm Household Waste Recycling Centre. “Shieldhall remains open for residents coming by car.
“Thank you for your patience while these temporary arrangements are in place.”
In a social media post, Govanhill Housing Association said: “We have been made aware that the Shieldhall Waste Management Centre is at capacity, which means that unfortunately our contractors will not be able to collect bulk waste this week.”
