Ticket prices on Glasgow’s Subway are set to increase from January.
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), which runs the Subway, agreed to lift fares as it set a budget for 2026/27.
Contactless pay as you go adult single journeys will rise by 5p to £1.85 while a single using a Smartcard will increase by 10p to £1.90. It will also be £1.90 for a disposable adult single ticket, a 5p rise.
An adult daily fare using contactless payments or a Smartcard is set to increase by 20p to £3.60. An adult return, with a disposable ticket, will also be £3.60 while it would be £4.60 for an adult daily, up from £4.45.
There will be a £16 cap for adult weekly contactless payments, rising from £15.50. A seven day adult season ticket, bought online, will cost £15 rather than £14.50. It will cost £16, up from £15.50, to buy one in the station.
Child single and daily tickets on Smartcards will increase by 5p to 95p and £1.70 respectively. Disposable ticket singles for children will rise from 95p to £1, returns will go from £1.70 to £1.80 and dailies from £2.25 to £2.30.
A concession single will remain at £1 for both Smartcard and disposable ticket users. Returns will increase by 10p to £1.80.
Annual, six month and 28 day season tickets for adults, whether bought online or in a station, are also increasing.
Bought online, a 28-day ticket will rise by £2 to £57, a six-month pass will become £285 rather than £275 and an annual ticket will go from £500 to £515.
From a station, the 28-day ticket will cost £62, up from £60, and a six-month ticket will increase from £295 to £305. An annual pass is set to rise from £515 to £530.
Ten-week tickets are also available online and are being increased from £132 to £126. All child season tickets will remain at the current price. The cost of a Smartcard will go up from £3 to £5.
All day fares for Park and Ride are being increased from £8.15 to £8.40. Parking only charges for 30 minutes or an hour are being removed, with fees starting at £3.30 for two hours. All day parking will also be £8.40.
A seven-day Park and Ride ticket will increase by £1 to £9, a 28-day pass will go from £143 to £147 and a six-month ticket will rise from £715 to £740.
The annual Park and Ride season ticket will cost an extra £30, rising to £1,300.
A report to an SPT meeting on Friday stated: “Subway fares were increased by around 3% in January 2026.
“A broadly similar approach is proposed for January 2027, to ensure appropriate income levels are generated to support operational costs.”
SPT, which also runs some bus services, receives a requisition from 12 councils. For the coming financial year, it will get £37.56m, an increase of 2.41% from 2025/26.
However, the report adds: “Although this increase is welcome it is important to note that funding settlements are not keeping pace with the demand and inflationary pressures which are being faced within public transport and local government.”
It states funding for “transport at a regional level still remains a significant challenge” and “only now in 2026/2027 is funding at a level similar to 2016/2017”, when £37.38m was granted.
Budget papers show SPT’s forecast income in 2026/27 is just over £39m. SPT members passed a balanced budget on Friday.
