Dozens of pupils from Hamilton College are running in this Friday’s Supernova Kelpies 5k challenge to raise money for charity.
It’s the first time the school has participated in the fun run alongside the iconic structures, which are lit up and change colour at dusk to create a stunning spectacle for participants and spectators alike.
In keeping with the school’s ethos, siblings, parents and grandparents have all been encouraged to take part as well, with the school delighted to have more than 100 members of its community signed up.
The school will be represented by each of its houses – Skye, Harris and Lewis – with pupils raising money for selected charities in Alzheimer Scotland, Maggie’s and Save The Children.
A number of teachers are joining their pupils for the challenge, which starts and finishes within Helix Park, with runners setting off at 8pm.
Headteacher Richard Charman will be among those taking part and he said: “Seeing over 100 members of the Hamilton College community taking part in the Supernova run for charity is something we are incredibly proud of.
“I have a feeling quite a few of them will be crossing the finish line ahead of me!
“What matters most is the spirit behind it. Supporting others and coming together for a good cause is exactly the kind of community ethos we want our pupils to grow up seeing and being part of.
“It will be a wonderful opportunity for us as a whole school to come together with families and children to raise money for the three chosen House charities.
“This initiative also aims to promote wellbeing and also an opportunity to celebrate our whole school spirit. Families can stroll with their prams, enjoy walking or jogging with their children and spectators can watch and support from the sidelines.”
Prior to the event, Senior School learners and their families will have the opportunity to come together for a meal before being transported to and from the Kelpies thanks to the generosity of local bus company Parks of Hamilton.
