Rangers and Hibs unable to be separated at Easter Road as Hibs rue missed chances in front of goal and Rangers lose points gained on Hearts last week.

The numbers alone painted a grim picture for Hibernian. One win in 28 Premiership meetings with Rangers, a bruising fortnight behind them, and a visiting side arriving on the back of six consecutive league victories.

Rangers came to Easter Road with every reason to be confident. Their January business had been positive, while Hibs were still reeling from a shock Scottish Cup exit to Dunfermline, a 4–1 drubbing at Falkirk, and the £6 million departure of
Kieron Bowie. History suggested the timing of this fixture could scarcely have been worse for the Hibees.

Hibs were forced into an early change as Miguel Chaiwa was forced off through injury. New Coventry loan signing, Kai Andrews came on in his stead.

Rangers controlled the large majority of the opening exchanges, seeking to expose Hibs down the right hand side with long diagonals to Andreas Skov Olsen.

Youssef Chermiti opted for additional stepovers instead of a shot when he was presented with an opportunity on the edge of the box.

Despite early Rangers control Hibs grew into the first and had the better of the chances. much of the ball in the first it was Hibs who had the more dangerous chances of the two.

In the 24th minute a floated cross from Elie Youan found Joe Newell free on the penalty spot. However, the Hibs club captain could not direct his header on target, squandering a great opportunity.

Martin Boyle’s pace and tenacity was Hibs’ main outlet in the first half. His pressing won the ball back high. He found Kia Andrews who danced on the edge of the box, nearly overplaying it before finding Elie Youan. Youans curled effort looked destined for the top corner before an acrobatic diving save from Jack Butland denied him.

Boyle will feel he should of done better with his chance just before halt time. Through on goal his finish was too central to beat Butland rushing out.

A whipped cross from Obita resulted in another massive chance for Hibs but once more they couldn’t score, as Youans header flashed wide of the mark.

A slack Rangers first half performance. Hibs came close but could not find a breakthrough.

The second half much like the first began with Rangers in control but providing little threat on the Hibs goal.

The match grew increasingly scrappy and passes loose, with both sides frustrated at their inability to carve out significant chances.

Both managers turned to their benches looking for answers and new Spurs loan signing Dane Scarlett created instant excitement, threatening in behind and winning a corner.

Rangers thought they’d gone ahead through a substitute of their own in Mikey Moore.

Moore was played in behind from a John Sottar long ball. He collected it calmy and slotted it home with a calm left footed finish, but he’d gone just to early to avoid being offside.

The final 15 minutes became an end to end contest with both sides stretched seeking a winner.

In added time Hibs had a chance to snatch all 3 points but Rudi Molotnikov couldn’t get his shot off in time as it ended all square at Easter Road.

Danny Rohl reflected on a competitive contest at Easter Road,

“You always want to win games but it was exactly as we expected, a tough game today.

“In the end I take the point today. There was some moments for Hibs where they could score, that’s football, you have to carry on.”

Rohl discussed his sides lack of creativity from open play,

“Especially in the first half, we started very controlled. After 25 minutes I felt we were comfortable on the ball without any outcome.
“The last 10 minutes I think it was up and down for both teams, both team tried to win the game and in the end I take a point today.”

A tough one for David Gray to take today as his side were much improved from recent weeks,
“I think we certainly had the better opportunities in the game. I think we at least deserved a point. I am a bit disappointed that we’ve not been more clinical.

“Slightly frustrated and disappointed we’ve not won the game but I think to the last two results and looking for a reaction, I certainly got that from everyone today.”

While Rangers controlled large spells, Hibs had the of better chances and will rue their lack of composure in front of goal which cost them the win today.
