The site of a former council-owned care home in Govan can be used for social housing after plans for 36 homes were approved.
Linthouse Housing Association has secured permission from Glasgow City Council to redevelop land at Mallaig Road. It was previously home to the old Davislea care home, which was demolished in late 2024.
Under the plan, a mix of terraced houses, townhouses and cottage flats will be provided.
“All housing is intended for grant assisted full social rent, to be delivered by the applicant and current owner of virtually all the application site; Linthouse Housing Association,” the application stated.
“The mix has been directly informed by Linthouse Housing Association’s current housing demand and requirements.”
Negotiations over the sale of the land to the housing association were approved by councillors in March last year.
In a representation to the council on the planning application, Cllr Dan Hutchison, who represents Govan, said the site has “caused significant anti-social behaviour in the community”.
He expressed gratitude to the housing association for “being receptive to developing this site” and said the 36 homes were “much-needed and greatly welcomed”.
However, he was concerned about “a significant removal of mature trees” on the land. He asked council planners to “conditionalise the consent on the replacement of these trees in the final development”. A report by planning officials states replacement planting is planned.
The development will also include 25 parking spaces for residents, with eight allocated to the cottage flats and the rest available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
According to the plans, there will be eight visitor parking spaces and a further six car parking and two bus parking spaces to be provided for sole use of staff and visitors at a neighbouring day centre.
Cycle parking spaces are also included, with a total of 82 across the whole scheme.
