Tochi Chukwuani was one of Rangers’ multiple January signings, arriving from Austrian side Sturm Graz. The midfielder started again at the weekend, featuring for just under 70 minutes in the draw with Hibs at Ibrox.

While the result extended Rangers’ unbeaten league run, Chukwuani was honest in his assessment of the performance, admitting there is still work to be done in the final third though he remains encouraged by the point gained.

‘We know there is still room for improvement. Our play in the last third wasn’t good enough and we didn’t control the game the way we wanted but if we look at the positive side, we still kept a clean sheet and continued our unbeaten run in the league,’ he said.

‘The season is long, we have until May, we are still in the mix, If we look at where we were before Christmas, it’s a huge difference.

‘I think it’s important that we didn’t lose this game, that we kept a clean sheet, these type of points are very important in the long run.’

Chukwuani is still settling into life in Glasgow and, while he has yet to fully make his mark, he has delivered industrious performances in the centre of midfield. The 22-year-old is also aware that his own game has room to develop as relationships within the squad continue to build.

‘I also need to take responsibility and try and control the game more. I just came in and I still need to find the rhythm.

‘I still think I need to find my position within the group, when I need to go forward, when I need to go back, me and Nico (Raskin) still have improvement and learning to do. I think with more minutes and time that will hopefully come.’

Chukwuani also arrives with recent title-winning experience, having lifted the Austrian Bundesliga with Sturm Graz last season — a quality some feel Rangers are lacking as they look to mount a serious title challenge. Of the starting XI that faced Hibs, only three players, Chukwuani included, have won a league title in their careers.

‘I think it’s always good to have that experience of winning a title, you know what it really takes to win a title and try and bring it here. Mentality every day in training and in games.’

Another January arrival with title-winning pedigree is Andreas Skov Olsen. While the Danish winger is still finding his feet at Ibrox, Chukwuani is confident his quality will soon show.

‘I’m sure we will see the best of him. He is slowly but surely improving, you can see it each training, each game, he’s finding his footing.’
