Daldowie Training Centre

Council-owned land near a Glasgow crematorium is set to be sold to allow a multi-million pound waste treatment centre to be created, with tenants living on the site moved to new homes.

Scottish Water wants to deliver the project on land — extending to more than 27 acres — beside Daldowie Crematorium.

The site currently includes a training centre and two semi-detached homes, while there are sludge treatment and waste water treatment works nearby.

In a report to councillors, officials say the tenants have agreed to leave their homes prior to the land sale, and have signed new tenancy agreements with Wheatley Homes.

They add the training centre will be relocated to the council’s depot at Blairtummock Road.

Initial talks have been held over the land and the council has “indicated a willingness” to sell. Councillors will be asked to approve off-market negotiations with Scottish Water at a meeting on Thursday.

Scotland’s publicly-owned water supplier has identified the site as its preferred location for a “multi-million pound project to create a new waste treatment facility”, according to the council report.

“The new facility will be a major upgrade to the existing sewage treatment facilities, providing environmental benefits, improved efficiency and reduced operating costs.”

It adds the facility would “become a critical component of Scottish Water’s national infrastructure and serve 40% of the Scottish population”.

Tenants currently lease the two homes but have “agreed to vacate the properties prior to the sale of the land”, officials state, adding they have “signed new tenancy agreements with Wheatley Homes for alternative accommodation, and the process of relocation is underway”.
