Land on Scaraway Street in Milton could be taken on by Wheatley Homes

Glasgow City Council is planning a land swap with a housing association in a move which could lead to the development of new homes in Milton.
Negotiations over an excambion — an exchange of land between two owners — of sites at Scaraway Street, Milton, and Pitmilly Road, Drumchapel, will begin if councillors give their approval this week.
The council-owned Scaraway Street site, which extends to over three acres, would be acquired by Wheatley Homes, with “the long-term view of redeveloping the site in future”, according to a council report.
The housing association owns a site at Pitmilly Road, which the council wants to take over to help with a drainage project to reduce flood risk.
Council officials report the deal wouldn’t be “subject to a nil value swap of the sites”. “Both sites will be assessed on their own merits,” they add.
“If the value of site one [Scaraway Street] is higher than the value of site two, then the difference in value will generate a capital receipt for Glasgow City Council. From an initial assessment of value, a financial contribution from Glasgow City Council is not anticipated.”
The Pitmilly Road site also extends to more than three acres, with 2.15 acres owned by Wheatley and the remaining 1.19 acres within the council’s ownership.
It would be used for implementing phase two of a Drumchapel surface water management plan. The initial phase of that plan saw the creation of a series of embankments and storage areas along the line of Garscadden Burn, around Southdeen Avenue and Kinfauns Drive, to manage high flows during storm events.
The council has said the work helps to reduce pressure on the sewer network, lessening the risk of flooding and allowing greater scope for future development.
Phase two has included upgrading road drainage on Summerhill Road, and a flood storage basin is proposed at Pitmilly Road.
The Milton site is bordered by Scaraway Street to the north, Vallay Street to the east, Egilsay Street to the south and Shapinsay Street to the west.
The Drumchapel land is bound by Drummore Road to the north and east, Summerhill Road to the south and Pitmilly Road to the west.
