More cycle paths are to be installed in the east end as the council seeks views on the latest plans to extend routes.
A section of London Road, between Braidfauld Street and Canmore Street, is to be transformed to give priority to people who are walking, cycling or on public transport.
The plans for the work on the ‘East City Way’ include 40 parking bays on the street and an upgraded Cyclops junction at Braidfauld Street to protect people walking and cyclists from traffic.
Among other proposals for the ‘phase 5’ work are a new on demand pedestrian crossing on London Road, planting and raingardens, upgraded bus stops and improvements to footpaths and pedestrian crossings.
The council said: “When completed the East City Way will provide a continuous and segregated cycle route linking the existing routes from Bridgeton to Daldowie Road near the Glasgow boundary.
“Phase 5 will tie into the previous phases from Bridgeton Station to Canmore Street which were completed in 2023. Phase 5 will continue from Canmore Street to Braidfauld Street, it will include upgrading bus stops, introducing a pedestrian crossing, upgrading the spaces for people cycling infrastructure and introducing parking.”
Work on the East City Way active travel scheme is taking place in phases with Phase 1 at Mount Vernon and Phases 6 and 7 at London Road completed to coincide with the Cycling World Championships in 2023.
