Recently Glasgow Council and Feminist Urbanism Working Group (FUWG) worked together to create a new accessible entrance and path network in Festival Park

Further lighting opportunities for Glasgow’s parks and greenspaces are being explored by the city council who estimate extra lighting columns willcost around £4,000.
A report was presented to members of the environment and liveable neighbourhoods committee yesterday which confirmed that further lighting measures for parks were under consideration across the city.
It comes after practical guidelines were launched in May 2023 to make parks and green spaces safer for women and girls across the UK.
Glasgow City Council has since committed to look into providing sensitive lighting solutions in parks, which consider both equality and impacts on climate.
They are working in collaboration with community groups, ward members, funders, biodiversity specialists and supply chains, to help the smooth delivery of the project.
Council officers are also working with the Feminist Urbanism Working Group (FUWG) to help progress the scheme.
The FUWG takes into account women’s lived experience of the city to ensure that everyone has a place they need and women are properly represented in decisions made about their environment.
They look at issues like gender equity, tackling misogyny and gender-based violence and contribute to the work of Glasgow’s parks in a way which embeds gender equality.
Recently the local authority and FUWG worked together to create a new accessible entrance and path network in Festival Park.
Speaking about the proposals a council officer said: “The report provides an update on parks, lighting including Castlemilk Park, Househill Park and Queen’s Park and the development work ongoing to support this.”
“The report also notes the support to the Feminism Urbanism Working Group with some of our existing projects being supported through this work.
“Officers will continue to engage with this work and are actively imbedding these principles in our business as usual activities.”
