A new café is set to open on Great Western Road after plans were given the go ahead by Glasgow City Council.

Officials have granted permission for the change of use of a premises, previously used by a financial services business, in Anniesland.

The applicant, Mohamad Kahani, is planning to open a café/restaurant serving “a range of fare”, according to his application.

A proposed menu showed he intends to sell breakfasts, soup, sandwiches, burgers, pancakes, cakes, milkshakes and hot and cold drinks.

The empty building, on the ground floor of a four-storey tenement, is on the corner of Great Western Road and Herschell Street.

Plans stated: “The proposed development will see this vacant unit transformed into a restaurant/café, providing a range of fare perhaps more akin to that which is to be found in a café rather than in a restaurant, but on occasion may provide more extensive fare.”

They revealed the venue is set to open from 9am to 9pm seven days per week “in order to catch the breakfast trade as well as the early evening trade”.

An extraction flue will be installed to “eliminate all noises caused by vibrations, prevent any odours and smells from impacting on local amenity” and “protect the fabric of the building”.

The application added: “The proposed change of use of this vacant financial services office into a restaurant/cafe will introduce a new service to the area.

“The new facility will complement other establishments in the area, and contribute to the area’s appeal for both residents and visitors alike. It will provide a meeting point and foster community spirit.”
