Former Maryhill Hub

Glasgow City Council has approved the off-market disposal of land at two sites in the city – in Drumry and Maryhill – where new homes will be built and has given a long-term lease of Ashford Park to a local football charity.
The first disposal approved at the Contracts & Property Committee last week was for the site of the former Maryhill Hub and adjacent land, Wyndford Road, Glasgow to Wheatley Homes Glasgow Limited. The overall site is 4.31 hectares in size, and the former Hub building was declared surplus to council requirements in June 2025. The disposal of the site will allow Wheatley Homes to build a major residential development of approximately 400 affordable homes for social and mid-market rent as well as a new purpose-built community hub. A capital receipt of £983,500 – minus any abnormal costs – will be generated by the council.
The second disposal approved was for land at the former Drumry Primary School at Abbotshall Avenue/Dunkenny Road/Drumry Road East, to Wheatley Housing Group Limited. The disposal of the 1.93 hectare site – surplus to council requirements – will enable Wheatley Housing Group to build 33 houses and 48 flats for social rent. The guaranteed minimum sale price for the site is £324,000, minus any abnormal costs.
The council also approved a grant a 25-year lease of Ashford Park – at 156 Golf Drive – to Knightswood Football Club SCIO (KFC) through the People Make Glasgow Communities (PMGC) programme. This Glasgow City Council programme helps and supports local people and organisations with their ambitions to deliver services in their communities.
Ashford Park features an 11-a-sized football pitch and surrounding grassed area, and the lease for the facility was held by Glasgow Life until 2022. Knightswood Football Club, a community-led football organisation, was founded in 1974 with the key aims of increasing participation in sport, promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle, and providing a safe environment. The Club has been working with the council’s PMGC team on their application to reactivate Ashford Park as a facility that will benefit the community, allowing access to local clubs and teams as well as community groups.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council,said: “These approvals are important decisions for Glasgow as the disposals will bring hundreds of new homes to the city at a time when they are needed so much, and the lease of Ashford Park will allow a local football club to bring new life to a key community asset that can now once again be used by many clubs and teams. The disposals will also see receipts to support the delivery of public services across the city.”
