A new Glasgow food market could be launched beside the river at Broomielaw if plans are approved.
Proposals for the attraction include a bar, seating area, food and drink stalls, fruit and vegetable market and live entertainment.
GIMC Holdings Co LTD have applied for planning permission to locate the market at land south of 150 Broomielaw for four years.
Dubbed ‘The Good Times Market,’ it would run Monday to Sunday from 7am to 10pm according to documents lodged with the council.
A letter to the community from chef and founder Scott van der Hoek said: “The Broomielaw has long been the historic gateway to our city, yet for too long, it has lacked a true soul as a place to gather, to eat well, and to feel connected to the river. We are writing to share our vision for Good Times Market, a permanent four year cultural landmark designed specifically to fill that void.”
An operational statement lodged with the council said the market is “designed as a vibrant, community focused social hub that champions local, high-quality offerings.”
Proposals include eight rotating food trucks and 16 picnic benches.
There will also be litter patrols and a night time security guard for the evenings according to an operational statement.
A community engagement letter from Mr van der Hoek added: “A busy waterfront is a safe waterfront. Our professional site management and evening stewards provide ‘eyes on the street,’ bringing light, warmth, and a welcoming atmosphere to the Clyde walkway long after the sun goes down.
“We are committed to making this stretch of the river feel as safe at 8pm as it does at 8am.”
He added: “We have chosen the Broomielaw because we believe it is the most exciting district in Glasgow.”
Glasgow City Council is considering the application.
