Closed Poundworld on Kilmarnock Road, Glasgow

A new convenience store is set to open in a long-term empty premises in Shawlands.
Around £500,000 is being invested in transforming the former Poundworld unit on Kilmarnock Road.
The plan was revealed at a meeting of Glasgow’s licensing board today (Friday), when applicant, Mohsin Raziq, was granted a provisional premises licence, allowing the sale of alcohol.
Board members were told the store would operate under the Morrisons Daily brand.
Michael McDougall, representing the applicant, said Mr Raziq and his family, which hold a number of licences in Glasgow and Renfrewshire, wanted to bring the building back into use.
He said there would be “considerable investment” of around £500,000 in the “large convenience store”, and 15 members of staff will be employed.
It is hoped the store, which will have a ‘beer cave’, will be ready “very soon”, with plans to open in two months.
Back in 2023, plans for a women-only gym on the site were approved following an appeal. Permission had initially been refused after residents had raised noise concerns.
But it was later granted by councillors on the city’s planning local review committee.
