158A Gartocher Road, Shettleston
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Catherine Hunter
Proposals to develop a new commercial unit on underused and partially overgrown land in Shettleston have been submitted to Glasgow City Council’s planning department.
A planning application for the building with associated parking, electric vehicle provision and cycle storage at 158A Gartocher Road is still pending a decision.
Currently unoccupied and partially overgrown, the land presents an opportunity for regeneration, according to developer JSS Architects.
The site already has access to roads and public transport and can be accessed via private land. It is surrounded by residential properties to the north, south, and west, as well as Budhill and Springboig Allotments.
In a planning statement submitted to the council, the developer states: “Importantly, the immediate context already accommodates long-established commercial activity.
“Gartocher Tyres, 158 Gartocher Road, has successfully operated for over 25 years within this predominantly residential setting. The continued presence and integration of this business demonstrates that small-scale commercial uses can co-exist compatible.”
If approved the land would offer eight spaces with charging points, cycle storage provided for staff and visitors and a dedicated bin store with recycling provision.
It would also include landscaping featuring new tree/shrub planting and the retention of boundary hedges to improve biodiversity.
The developer added: “The proposed unit is intended to accommodate a business currently facing displacement due to a Notice to Quit served on their existing premises.
“The relocation into the new unit will ensure their continued operation in Glasgow, preserving employment and sustaining local economic activity.”
A decision will be made in due course.
