Children from Eastfield Primary and Holy Cross Primary Schools were at the heart of celebrations as the new Eastfield Fun Zone in Cumbernauld was officially opened on Friday 15 May.

The new play area has been shaped by local young people from the very beginning, with pupils taking part in consultations to help design the space and choose the play equipment they wanted to see included.

The project has created a bright, modern and welcoming space for local children and families to enjoy, while also giving young people a real say in decisions affecting their community. The development supports local priorities around youth engagement, community involvement and improving green spaces across Cumbernauld.

Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities said: “It’s fantastic to see the new Fun Zone officially open and being enjoyed by local children and families. What makes this project especially important is that young people helped shape it from the start.

“By listening to children and involving them in decisions about their community, we’re creating spaces that truly reflect what local families want and need. This is a great example of communities, schools and the council working together to deliver something positive for the area.”

Pupils who took part in the consultation were invited along to the official opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project and see their ideas brought to life.
