Sauchiehall Street

The firm behind a chain of booze and ball games bars is set to open a venue on Sauchiehall Street — after initially identifying premises on Argyle Street.
Roxy Leisure Ltd has secured a licence to sell alcohol from a Roxy Ball Room bar at 185 Sauchiehall Street, which was previously a Sports Direct shop.
A representative for the company told Glasgow’s licensing board that it plans to invest around £1.6m in the venue. She said the firm intended to “surrender” a licence for an Argyle Street unit, which had been granted in 2024.
Roxy Leisure, which has venues in more than 10 cities across the UK, including Edinburgh, previously gained planning permission from Glasgow City Council to convert a former JJB Sports shop on Argyle Street.
Late last year, permission was granted for an “entertainment venue” at 185 Sauchiehall Street.
Roxy’s bars give guests an opportunity to play a range of games, including ten pin bowling, pool, ping pong and shuffleboard as well as sometimes providing batting cages for sports such as cricket and rounders.
“The emphasis of the premises here is getting people out of the house to play games with friends, family or colleagues,” the firm’s representative said.
The provisional premises licence will allow the venue to sell alcohol on site until midnight. An estimated 10 full-time and 30 part-time jobs could be created.
When planning permission was requested in 2024, the application stated the company is “one of the leading operators in the UK for competitive socialising in a bar environment”.
“We create venues that are great for any size of celebration, small to large,” the application added. “A place full to the brim with games but never losing that great bar atmosphere that we pride ourselves on.”
