Stannah lifts keep people and goods moving every day. Now they’re getting mobile themselves– supporting charities across the UK.
The Glasgow service branch for Stannah Lifts Distribution and Service (LD&S) takes on the company’s incredible 4,000-mile charity cycling challenge, raising £806 for their chosen charity, ACCORD Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to patients and families. With Stannah match funding, this brings the total to £1,612.
Together, over 700 colleagues across 11 service branches will collectively cycle one full lap of Britain by clocking up the miles on an indoor exercise bike that will travel between each location – 4,000 miles, the equivalent of 1.28 million lift journeys – keeping Britain moving in more ways than one!
Colleagues at the Glasgow branch, located in Hillington, have cycled an impressive 630 miles, with just over 1,042 miles remaining to reach the final target.
Every mile cycled reflects a shared commitment to raising funds for the charity based in Renfrewshire, Scotland. ACCORD Hospice was chosen by Stannah’s employees in recognition of the invaluable care, support and compassion they provide to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Their work makes a meaningful difference in the community, helping people through some of the most challenging times in their lives.
David Ferguson, Branch Manager at Stannah Lift Services in Glasgow, who nominated the charity, shares: “Two of my close family members have received palliative care from Accord Hospice. The compassion, professionalism and understanding shown by ACCORD Hospice and its staff have been second to none and certainly lightened the load all family members were feeling. By raising funds for Accord Hospice, we can help ensure these essential services continue to be available to those who need them most.”

Provost of Renfrewshire, Lorraine Cameron, and Council Officer, John Russell, visited the branch on Hillington Industrial Estate to show their support.

The exercise bike will now travel to the Gateshead branch, where colleagues will have two weeks to complete their mileage target and raise funds for a local charity before moving on to the next location, mapping a virtual route around Great Britain.
Ultimately, this nationwide challenge is about far more than tallying up miles. It’s about unity, connection, wellbeing and giving back to communities across the country — all while celebrating the engineering and service teams who keep Britain moving every day.
