Tollcross park is in line to get toilets as a councillor called for permanent loos in the east end green space and Glasgow Green.

Locals have been calling for toilets to be installed at Tollcross Park, which is home to an ornate glass house and a children’s farm.

Councillor Anthony Carroll has asked the council for an update on toilet plans for Glasgow Green and Tollcross Park.

A council official said a modular toilet unit is to be purchased and installed for the next financial year in April 2027 at Tollcross Park.

It has also been confirmed that a modular toilet has been hired and is located near the Greendyke Street entrance in Glasgow Green – which is likely to be leased until October 2027.

Green Councillor Carrolll wants to see public toilets expanded across parks so “everyone can enjoy them without worry.”

He said: “Having toilets in Glasgow Green has been a long standing campaign with the community council.”

The Dennistoun local politician added: “Tollcross is a well used park these days. I was there last week. It was full of families visiting the farm and enjoying the park. It is just as deserving of a public toilet as any park in the city.”

He said: “All of us in the Greens are keen to invest in public toilets especially in the east end.”

He raised the issue of toilet provision at last week’s economy, housing, transport and regeneration city policy committee.

Commenting on a council paper containing details about toilet construction, councillor Carroll said: “While Bellahouston is complete and the Botanics is potentially next, others such as Glasgow Green and Tollcross are still in pre construction.”

The council had earmarked 2023 to 2024 Scottish Government Place Fund cash for toilet construction according to a paper with £100,000 for Tollcross Winter Gardens, and £50,000 for Botanic Gardens, Bellahouston Park and Glasgow Green.
